Come along and experience the beautiful waters of Loch Ryan in a whole new and exciting way, while learning the basics of windsurfing in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. Our sessions on Thursday evenings from 5.30pm – 7.30pm, are open to all skill levels, so whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced windsurfer, everyone is welcome.

Experienced windsurfers are especially encouraged to come along, rent equipment with us, share their skills and experiences, and help inspire others to enjoy this fantastic sport. Come and give it a go!

Getting Started: Equipment

  • Swim wear for under the wetsuit
  • Old footwear you don’t mind getting wet
  • A towel for afterwards

Community Windsurfing Taster Session

If you ever wanted to give Windsurfing a go? Now is your chance! Try windsurfing with a taster tuition session. Learn how to balance, position the board, set up and control the sail. Out on the water, practise moving off, sailing in a straight line and simple turns. This is your chance to get out on the water, ask as many questions as you like, and get a taste for the sport.

Community Windsurfing – Equipment Hire

If you are a confident wind surfer and would like to get on the water with a group of like-minded people, this is the opportunity for you! Hire equipment from Stranraer Water Sports: board, sail, rig, wetsuit, buoyancy aid, and take to the water under the supervision of our RYA instructor with the provision of a safety boat.

RYA Start Windsurfing

RYA Windsurfing Stage 2

Once you have gained the essential skills to sail safely and confidently on the water, you are ready to develop your practical skills needed to windsurf a course. Your instructor will help you develop your tacks and gybes, building confidence on all points of sail. All fun no theory. Get on the water and develop your windsurfing skills.
