St Ayles Coastal Rowing

One of the fastest growing water sports in the UK and one that’s rapidly putting Stranraer on the map as we gear up to host SkiffieWorlds for a second time! Stranraer Coastal Rowing Club formed in 2018 after the ‘Lady Bay’ – our very first skiff – was completed.

St Ayles coastal rowing is all about teamwork on the water. Perfect for all abilities, this inclusive and community-focused sport builds boats as well as building social connections through our welcoming club. The sport was invented in Scotland about 15 years ago, with the boats typically built by members of the community.

Success in coastal rowing comes from teamwork and rhythm as well as strength. The standard crew is four rowers, each with a single oar, and a coxswain.
