Five Reasons to Join SWSA’s Kids Club

For children aged 8 and over, Stranraer Water Sports Association’s (SWSA) Kids Club offers more than just an opportunity to try water sports. It’s a gateway to fun, adventure, and personal growth.

Whether your child is new to water sports or wants to build on skills they already have, Kids Club is the perfect environment to dive into exciting activities while making lasting memories.

Last year we asked the parents of our Kids Club members what they most value about our club – here’s a summary of what they said!

1. Build Confidence and Overcome Fears

Learning a new skill can be daunting, but Kids Club provides a supportive and encouraging space for children to step out of their comfort zones. From mastering a paddleboard to navigating a kayak, each achievement builds confidence that extends beyond the water, and kids often discover strengths and capabilities they didn’t know they had.

Parents have also shared that Kids Club has helped children overcome fears, such as a fear of drowning, and even encouraged teens to laugh, smile, and build confidence in new skills.

2. Make New Friends and Strengthen Teamwork Skills

Kids Club is a social hub where young people connect with others who share their enthusiasm for adventure. Through team activities like rowing or group challenges on the water, children learn the value of collaboration and teamwork while forming friendships that often last a lifetime.

“Socialising, meeting kids his age, and making new friends have been some of the best parts of Kids Club,” shared a parent. “Nobody is judging, and everyone has fun together.”

3. Develop Essential Life Skills

Beyond water sports, Kids Club fosters personal development, enhance problem-solving abilities, improve communication, and learn resilience. These essential skills prepare young people not just for water sports but for life’s challenges.

Parents noted that children benefit greatly by learning to listen better to instructions, building confidence, and developing team-building skills. One parent observed that their child’s participation in Kids Club has helped them “get out of the bedroom and off the computer.”

4. Enjoy the Great Outdoors

In today’s tech-driven world, Kids Club offers a refreshing opportunity to connect with nature. Loch Ryan’s stunning surroundings provide the perfect setting for exploring, playing, and soaking in the benefits of outdoor activities. Fresh air and physical exercise are proven to boost mental and physical wellbeing.

“Going out on Loch Ryan gives the kids a great view of the area and allows them to truly enjoy nature,” noted one parent. Seeing young people engage with water sports is a highlight for many families.

5. Have Fun in a Safe and Structured Environment

At SWSA, safety is our top priority. All Kids Club sessions are led by qualified instructors who ensure every child feels secure and supported. With a mix of structured activities and plenty of laughter, Kids Club is all about enjoying the water in the best way possible.

“Tom’s way with kids is exceptional – he makes sessions fun but also educational,” shared a parent. Another parent highlighted how “lots of opportunities for kids to go onto the water and learn new skills” make the experience special.
